There's a lot of used dressage saddles at the one local tack shop, a nice one for 0.
I was just thinking, if I got a dressage saddle, what would it do for me that my close contact and my western saddles can't?

They give you a better position.
And they help you ride with longer stirrups comfortably, which really helps to get your leg around the horse to give more subtle aids and to make your use of leg more effective.
Of course they won’t just give you this, you can still have a crap position in a dressage saddle and still not ride well – but with proper instruction they are an aid to help you, especially when you get to higher level dressage.
Well, Dressage is like "horse competition", so the saddle is probably more comfortable, and fancy.
I think good quality dressage saddles put you in a really good seat and help you connect with the horse better.
Unless you’re doing competitive dressage, or training in it I wouldn’t worry about getting one.
Dressage saddles can help put you in a better position for dressage, but since you are currently doing western and hunters, you really don’t need one. If you later decide to take up dressage, it would be a good investment.
