Schleese saddle/other dressage saddles?

by Admin on May 6, 2010

I want to know what opinions people have about schleese saddles. I'm looking to purchase a new dressage saddle, and hoping to get one that fits my horse a bit better. The appealing idea about the schleese saddles is that you can have them adjusted for life.

This means that anytime your horse changes or you get a new horse, the saddle can be changed to fit the new horse. I'm thinking about looking for a used one, but they look very difficult to find. If anyone has any other ideas on custom saddles that can be adjusted, I'd appreciate it. Please not Wintec, I have owned an Isabell and I'm looking for higher quality.

I've heard mixed reviews about Schleese customer service, even if you have a schleese jumping saddle, any opinions about the company?

Thanks a million.

I used to have one. It was super comfortable and it did fit a lot of horses. I was lucky because when I needed work done on my saddle I just waited until the yearly Maryland Horse Expo and Schleese always had a booth there. They refilled the air panels on my saddle for free several times and were always super nice and willing to answer my questions.

The only reason I sold that saddle is that I have a tendency to ride in a chair seat, and that saddle encouraged me to ride in that chair seat. Of course, I picked out that model because it was so comfortable for me, probably because it fit my preferred chair seat position so perfectly! So I can’t really blame Schleese. If I had known more about a correct dressage position at the time, I would have picked a different model. My trainer at the time, a top Grand Prix rider, used the Schleese saddles himself and recommended them to all his students.

I think the Prestige dressage saddles can be adjusted too. I know the Prestige jumping saddles can. I sent mine in and for $100 they made my med-narrow saddle into a med-wide. It worked great. I’m not sure if any other brands have the tree that can be altered.

What size do you need? I have a friend selling a Schleese dressage saddle. I think it’s a fairly large seat size with short flaps.

We have… had a schleese at our barn, it got stolen, but from what I remember, while it fit on a lot of our horses, there was 0 comfort for the rider. But it was an older model so I don’t know. But that’s all I know about a schleese so :)

I love vogel saddles. They are a little more money but not bad. Theyre very comfortable but so worth it

I have a schleese dressage saddle and i LOVE it!!! I have always found their customer service very pleasing. I really like the fact that thier saddles are adjustable, as i’ve had to sell a few saddle from horse changing shape. Instead of buying a used schleese saddle, i bought one of their "demo" saddles, which was cheaper, but still in excellent condition.

I have a Prestige dressage saddle, and as someone else has said, they can be adjusted (up/down 2cm from their original size).

I really think you should try the saddles to see which you like more and what puts you in the better position- I know someone who spent $4,000+ on a custom buffalo leather County dressage saddle, and it puts her in an awful position.
