Measuring for a dressage saddle seat…?

by Admin on May 6, 2010

I am looking to buy a Wintec 500 Dressage saddle with the CAIR system for my SW/QH mare. I got her wither trace, but I'm having issues figuring out what seat I should get.

I have a 16" currently and it is too small and does not fit my mare right, as I found out thank goodness. I have a horrible chair seat in it, which was also caused by the saddle being too small. My legs are very long and my bum is bony and small (which makes sitting the trot a blast!) Since my saddle right now is far from correct, is there a way I could measure some points on my body to get an approximate seat size?

I will actually try out the saddle first, I just would like to lessen the guessing game time by having the wither measurement ready along with an approx. seat size.

the seat size has nothing to do with how the saddle fits your mare. the seat size is only important to the rider (you). here is a chart and article explaining how to properly fit the seat to the rider, but fitting the horse is a whole different ball game
